Lifestyle Project
This was a lifestyle brief about selecting a town or a city as a starting point which had the potential to inspire me. We were asked to consider the following:
- Is the chosen town or city famous for any reason?
- Is it on the coast?
- Is it very urban?
- Do you want a more rural feel?
- etc

- Product packaging
- Wallpaper
- Fashion
- Advertisement
- Gallery
- Magazine
- Others
For the tourism posters I designed, I was partly inspired by travel posters of the 20's and 30's which was the "golden age of travel". Today, if you at promotional material for say the Orient Express, Virgin Cruises and the Cunard Line they all have adopted the style of this era. Why is this? Possibly it is because that these days so many places are accessible and affordable to the majority of people. During these early days of civil aviation, travel abroad was only for the very rich so these tours were very exclusive. So I think some travel companies are trying to revive this feeling of privilege and exploration by adopting this design style.
Since Northern Mexico is largely unknown to many foreigners as a tourist destination, I believe my typical audience will be the adventurous and the nature/ eco tourist who will appreciate the natural wonders of Mexico such as the Copper Canyon (Bigger and deeper than the Grand Canyon!!); the crystal caves of Naica and also the archeological sites (Paquime and Cuarenta Casas).
As well as places, Chihuahua is of interest for anthropologists because it is the home of the Tarahumara native Indians, the ancient civilisation that inhabited Paquime and the Menonites from Holland made their home in Chihuahua too.
As for the technical method I used to produce these posters, I first used hand drawn images which I did myself. These were later scanned and used as the starting point for the digital process in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. So for example. In the following poster there are 7 images plus the typography. Each one of these was originally done by hand (In case anyone thinks I've cheated!).

So as you can see each poster is not just a single image in isolation. Each one is a composite of many images each one originally done by hand.

There is not any map of the city centre of Chihuahua, I wanted to design one to help tourists to find the most important places of my Town. All the images are hand drawn and painted digitally in photoshop.

This poster advertising the archeological site of Paquime was inspired by its world famous ceramic art (Which is very expensive!!) the designs for which date back to the ancient civilisations which built the town. Trying recreate some of these patterns in the same style but in my own design was a very time consuming process but I believe it was finally worth the effort.

Greeting Card.
I made this birthday card for a friend. She hasn't seen a Pinata before, so I thought it could be good idea to show her what is a Pinata and what is inside of the Pinata when you break it with a stick (usually sweets). Hand drawn and digitally painted in Illustrator

Issue Based Illustration Project
The following project was to demonstrate knowledge of Political and Issued Based Illustration. It was like I have something to say an I'm saying it!!
I have to use an appropriate visual voice for my stance and clearly defined audience, the images needed to be persuasive with a clear communication.
The issue was, the amount of food householders waste every day.
MANIFESTO.
- Every year 20% of all food purchased was thrown away, of this 60% of dispossed food was edible, the value of this waste was estimated to be about £12 billion!!
- The waste goes to landfill which generates methane a green house gas.
- Our consumerism puts a pressure on developing countries to cut down rainforest for agricultural land
- The food could have used to feed the third world countries where a lot of food stuffs are made anyway, but are sold preferentially to the first world countries to earn foreign currency
- WE WASTE MONEY!!
What can we do
- Prepare a weekly menu and buy what you need.
- Think about portions
- If you have left overs keep it and use for lunch next day
- When you are in a Restaurant think how hungry you are
- Don't automatically throw out food by its use by date. Taste it and try it first
- If you have waste compost it. It's better than putting into landfill
- Encourage your local authority to harness the methane from food waste to generate energy
After all the research I did, I decided to do a series of simple design posters to tell the story of how we are always tempted by supermarket offers, taking loads of food home and then throw lots away. I was inspired by some of the new ads in the London underground which tell a story although these appear in small t.v screens (or as a sequence of posters) for an advert campaign as you ascend/descend on the escalator or walk through a tunnel. I also did a series of "Prohibition signs" which give clear instructions about what I want people to do.
